Lorain County, OH

Type: Sales Tax

Outcome: Loss

Results: Fail, 74% - 26%

Commissioners have approved a 0.25 percent sales tax for five years.  The original proposal would have dedicated all of the revenue to public transportation, but the proposal the Commission then approved only dedicated 25 percent of the $9.9 million in anticipated annual revenue to transit.  Since then, commissioners increased that transit percentage to 50 percent.  The rest would go to other budgetary needs in the county.  The original effort to get the measure on the ballot was led by the group, Mobility and Opportunity for a Vibrant Economy (MOVE).  Now, however, MOVE Lorain County has said it cannot support the measure because they feel the 50-50 split does not dedicate enough revenue to transit.
