San Diego County, CA

Type: Sales Tax

Outcome: Loss

Results: Fail, 57% - 43%

The San Diego Association of Governments (SANDAG) has voted to send a half-cent sales tax on the ballot in November.  Now supervisors must decide whether or not to put the measure before voters.  If approved, this measure would generate an estimated $18.2 billion over 40 years.  Revenue would go toward a long-term plan approved by SANDAG’s board that calls for highway improvements, surface rail, a sky-way gondola system, and bike/ped projects.  About 40 percent of new revenue would go to public transit.
