Transit Profiles

Several United States cities have invested time and capital to become examples of transportation excellence. Following are transit profiles for each of these cities. Select a city graphic to read their story and to learn how they accomplished their goals.

Denver, Colorado

RTD's Light Rail line, the Central Corridor, provided the Denver metropolitan area its first experience with Light Rail Transit when it opened for revenue service on October 7, 1994. Read more (PDF File)

Portland, Oregon

Tri-Met, the Portland metropolitan transit agency, operates a 33-mile MAX light rail system. The first segment - Eastside MAX - was opened in 1986; the second segment - Westside MAX - opened in 1998. The entire route has 50 stations. Read more (PDF File)

St. Louis, Missouri

MetroLink, the St. Louis metropolitan region's light rail system, operates on a 17-mile line. The system opened on July 31, 1993. Read more (PDF File)

Washington, D.C.

The Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) was created by an interstate compact in 1967 to plan, finance, construct and operate a comprehensive mass transit system for the Washington metropolitan area. Read more (PDF File)
