… the Very First…
…Center for Transportation Excellence Transit
Initiative Awards!
Has your community done something really innovative and interesting
(or downright mind-boggling) related to a transit initiative campaign?
You should be recognized for your brilliance!
Well, here’s your chance. CFTE wants to learn more about
all the good ideas out there through our Transit Initiative Award
program. This year we will be offering recognition in three categories:
- Most innovative use of the web
- Most innovative coalition building
- Most innovative response to critics
If you’re doing something wonderful in one of these areas,
let us know! Winners will receive one FREE REGISTRATION to the 2005
Transit Initiatives Conference (date and location TBD).
Please review the following criteria and entry information. We
look forward to your response.
Most Innovative Use of the Web in a Transit Initiative Campaign:
The winner in this category will demonstrate the following:
• Compelling design and graphics
• Online opportunities for interaction with the public and
interested groups
• Usefulness of information in conveying the mission of the
campaign
• Accessibility
Most Innovative Coalition-Building in a Transit Initiative Campaign:
The winner in this category will demonstrate the following:
• A broad and strong array of coalitions involved in the
efforts, including business interests, non-profit groups and citizens.
• Outreach to low-income, disadvantaged and other potentially
disenfranchised groups
• Creative methods of reaching out to coalitions and inspiring
involvement in the campaign
Most Innovative Response To Critics: The winner in this category
will demonstrate the following:
• Targeted response to a specific situation in which critics
attacked a particular transit system or plans for future development
• Strong efforts to publicize the response to the media and
other outreach channels
• Integration of response to critics to ongoing public relations,
transit initiative or other types of effort in improve the perception
of public transportation
All entries must be received by Friday August 13th, 2004. Please
submit a no more than 2-page letter describing your project and
specifically how it meets the proposed criteria. Any supporting
materials (CDs, brochures, videos, etc.) will be appreciated as

Reception at Rail~Volution, which takes place September 19-22, 2004.
