City of Oahu, HI – Question 1
Type:  Amendment to City Charter
Summary:
This is one of several proposed amendments to the city charter. It would establish an independent transit authority for the city to govern over rail and bus services. If approved, the authority would be composed of six members, three elected by the mayor and three by the city council. The main purpose of the establishment is to have an organization oversee the proposed $5 billion rail project on the island.

Ballot Language:
Shall the Revised City Charter be amended to create a semi-autonomous public transit authority responsible for the planning, construction, operation, maintenance, and expansion of the City’s fixed guideway mass transit system?
