4 MI Benzie County Type: Property Tax This measure asked voters to renew and restore a 0.5 mill tax for Benzie Bus for 5 years. Without approval, Benzie Bus service would have been forced to stop indefinitely. The measure is expected to raise about $541,000 in its first year. This is the first time voters were asked to renew the millage for the five-year old system. May 3, 2011

5 MI City of Corunna Type: Property Tax A renewal of a 0.25 mill levy used to support the Shiawassee Area Transportation Agency. It is estimated that the millage would generate $14,000 in first year. November 8, 2011

A five-year, 0.4 mill renewal to operate the Macatawa Area Express bus system. The MAX Transportation Authority Board approved the measure to go before Holland and Holland Township voters. It is expected to generate approximately $890,000 a year. Area voters approved the first MAX operating millage in 2006.

It would generate an estimated $18.3 million annually to support a 25% boost in bus service within the first 3 years, and to help launch commuter trains by 2018 and light rail by 2025.

20 NC Raleigh Type: Bond A $40 million transportation bond supported by an increase in property taxes to finance the repaving of more than 60 road miles, and an upgrade to bus stops and overhaul of the Moore Square Transit Center. It would also support the initial construction of a new Amtrak station downtown.

* OH Lorain County Type: Sales Tax Voters in Lorain County will be asked to raise the sales tax from 6.25 to 6.5 percent to support a variety of county programs. The tax is expected to generate between $7 and $7.5 billion per year. If it is not approved the county will cut their contribution to the Lorain County Transit System in half, from $100,000 to $50,000. November, 8 2011

22 OH Stark County Type: Sales Tax

Voters in Stark County were asked to renew a five-year, 0.25 percent sales tax for theStark County Regional Transit Authority (SARTA).

23 OH Trumbull County Type: Property Tax A 0.5-mill, five-year levy to support Niles-Trumbull Transit. The system will either cease to exist as of January 1 or the fees will be replaced by the levy. The tax increase is expected to raise $1.7 million annually. November, 8 2011

24 WA Clark County Type: Sales Tax Proposition 1 is a 0.2% sales tax increase to support the Clark County Public Transportation Benefit Area Authority, which runs C-TRAN. If the measure fails service is expected to be cut by about 35%. C-TRAN currently receives 0.5 percent sales tax, but an increase to 0.7 percent would provide an additional $8 to $9 million in revenue.

25 WA Jefferson County Type: Sales Tax

Voters in Jefferson County approved Prop. 1, a measure to increase the local sales tax by 0.3 for Jefferson Transit. Without approval, Sunday bus service would have been cut. The measure is expected to general about $1 million annually for transit operations.

26 WA Pierce County Type: Sales Tax

The Pierce Transit board placed the 0.3 percent sales tax increase on the ballot to avoid up to 40 percent cuts in service. The measure is expected to raise approximately $30 million more a year in revenue for Pierce Transit's bus service. The existing sales tax generated $60 million annually for the transit system. Pierce Transit's sales tax portion was increased from 0.6 percent to 0.9 percent.

27 WA Seattle Type: Car-tab fee The Seattle City Council voted to place a $60 car-tab fee on the November ballot for transportation investment. Of the $204 million expected to be raised, 49% would go to transit, 29% to road maintenance and safety and 22% to bike/ped infrastructure. November 8, 2011

28 WA Statewide Type: Anti-tolling

 Initiative 1125 would

  • require the Legislature (not the state Transportation Commission) to set tolls,
  • mandate that a toll on a particular road or bridge be used only to build, operate or maintain that project,
  • prevent light rail from running on the I-90 floating bridge
