Take Action
The success of public transportation in America depends on the
active participation of informed citizen advocates. On this page
you can learn the basics of refuting transit critics, waging a successful
media campaign and improving your advocacy skills.
Responding to Critics
In order to successfully respond to critics of public transit,
we have developed a package of materials designed to help refute
the critics and bolster the work of transit advocates.
This packet
includes the following:
- What the Critics Say: a brief survey of the critics' main arguments
and the "evidence" they use to support their claims.
- Point-by-point refutation of the claims made by the transit
critics with brief and easily understood examples and evidence.
- Proactive materials for promoting transit in your community,
including template letters to the editor, one-pagers on common
transit themes, template advertisements and marketing ideas, and
sample resolutions for local officials and groups to adopt.
- Case studies of what has working in various communities
- A "How-To" manual for putting together a pro-transit
conference in your community.
